'You're ruining our f***ing day': Police make their presence on 'counterfeit street' known
There can be no doubt that Greater Manchester Police are taking the disruption and dismantling of 'Counterfeit Street' - a small section in and around Bury New Road just outside the city centre - very seriously indeed. Police patrol the streets almost constantly to keep those illegally trading hiding behind their shutters.

This was one man they had targeted to arrest today with the rest of the day all about keeping a close eye on the shops in and around Bury New Road.
A number of people were stopped and searched having acted suspiciously around officers and one man was stopped carrying a large knife, officers told us. What was clear is that the officers seem genuinely determined to stamp out the crime here and were enjoying their work, "we don't even really need to look for it here, it's so blatant".
