Tashawn Bernard, 12, was was confronted by an officer with his gun out outside his home

Police were forced to apologise after they mistakenly arrested a child while he was taking the bins out. Tashawn Bernard, 12, was confronted by an armed officer outside his home in Lansing, Michigan.

Lansing Police said in a statement that Tashawn was the victim of a “wrong place, wrong time” incident - despite the young boy being outside his own home. In the footage, Michael can be heard saying: "You always use that excuse man... It doesn't matter - once you're black you match any description, bottom line."

A statement from Lansing Police Chief Ellery Sosebee said had contacted Michael and "explained the situation and apologised for the misunderstanding".
