The council has imposed restrictions on the shop's opening hours

Planners in Barrow have approved plans to convert an empty shop into a Mediterranean-themed sandwich shop.

Westmorland and Furness Council has given the green light to plans from the owners of Dodona House Mediterranean Grill to expand their business and open a hot-food takeaway at 184 Dalton Road with conditions. The council state the takeaway must have an exhaust ventilation system installed and not be open between 6pm and 8am.

Dodona House is a restaurant and takeaway family-run business on Duke Street which serves Mediterranean, Greek, Italian and Albanian cuisine. The Barrow business is open from Monday to Sunday from 4pm to 10.30pm. The owner Horizont Pllanna previously said the expansion would answer the call of regular customers to open in the daytime and plans for the new takeaway to be open from 8am until 5pm.He added: “We will be giving an extra option to people from Barrow, which will be exciting for us.

The owner also previously said the new takeaway would offer hot sandwiches, grab-and-go sandwiches as well as drinks. Recently the restaurant has won a host of awards including an award for Best BBQ in Barrow from Restaurant Guru in 2022. The existing use of the property as a flat on the first and second floors will remain the same. Westmorland and Furness Council approved the planning application on September 21.
