Local pharmacies in England are struggling amid a ‘shortage’ of antibiotics available to treat Strep A infections.

‘However, make sure you talk to a health professional if your child is getting worse after a bout of scarlet fever, a sore throat or respiratory infection – look out for signs such as a fever that won’t go down, dehydration, extreme tiredness and difficulty breathing.’

Speaking on BBC Radio Scotland’s Good Morning Scotland programme, he said: ‘There have been 1,195 Group A Strep infections since the beginning of October – that’s the PHS figure in Scotland. – but that’s not unusual. Asked whether he is concerned about running out of antibiotics he said: ‘No, there’s no shortage of supply.
