The train had been heading north from Carlisle towards Scotland when the incident took place.
A person has died after been hit by a train on a major rail route linking Scotland with the north of England, police have confirmed.
A spokesperson for the BTP said the fatality was not being treated as suspicious, and a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.
