The automatic transfer process to Adult Disability Payment takes between 13 and 17 weeks.

Social Security Scotland recently announced that more people in receipt of Personal Independence Payment from the Department for Work and Pensions will start moving to the new Adult Disability Payment over the coming months.

Those already receiving PIP or Disability Living Allowance do not need to apply for ADP as the migration process is automatic. The transfer process is being done in phases and takes between 13 to 17 weeks to complete, however, Social Security Scotland has announced that existing claimants should continue to report any “changes to their health condition, mobility or care needs” to the DWP as this “may start the case transfer” process.

It also explained that before the transfer process begins, the DWP will send people a letter to let them know that their benefit is moving to Social Security Scotland and when their PIP or DLA award will end. During the transfer, the DWP will continue paying the benefit until their award has moved. Included with this completion letter will be a change of circumstances form which can also be submitted online. It said submitting the change online is the quickest option. People have 28 days to submit the change of circumstances form but can ask for a 28 day extension if they need it.
