Millions of people on a low income could save £200 this year switching to special broadband tariff
The Department for Science, Innovation and Technology has confirmed that it is working with Ofcom and broadband providers to ensure social tariff packages are accessible to those on a low income or certain benefits. Last week, UK Government Minister Sir John Whittingdale, said that social tariffs are available in 99 per cent of the UK, from 23 providers starting from £10 per month.
A survey conducted by Citizens Advice in May suggested that as many as one million people self-disconnected from their broadband in the last year as the cost of living crisis left them unable to afford it. Before making the call, use a comparison website to see what deals are out there that are similar to your own, this will give you some haggling power if you need it.
