Experts later found that 'driver error' was the cause of the crash

A pensioner from Nottinghamshire wept as he admitted causing the death of his friend in a crash in Wales, having veered into oncoming traffic. Andrew Newton, of Robinettes Lane, Strelley, was driving home from a day out at Llyn Crafnant reservoir with Marilynn Kerrigan on May 19.

Newton, along with the husband and wife in the Renault, were taken to Royal Stoke University Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Ms Kerrigan, who lived in Dolwyddelan, died at the scene from her injuries, aged 68.Experts later found that "driver error" was the cause of the crash. At a hearing at Llandudno Magistrates' Court on Wednesday Newton pleaded guilty to causing the death of Ms Kerrigan by driving carelessly.
