Paulo Bernardo, on loan from Benfica, aims to follow in the footsteps of his friend Jota and make a name for himself at Celtic.
Paulo Bernardo says he still keeps in touch with his old pal Jota after he gave him a lesson in what to expect at Celtic .
The Portuguese midfielder joined on loan from Benfica in the summer and has had to wait patiently for his chances with Callum McGregor, Matt O'Riley and Reo Hatate the established midfield three. But he could be in line for a run in the team now after Brendan Rodgers confirmed Hatate will be out until after Christmas at the earliest.
Bernardo was the man called upon to replace him against Atletico Madrid and made his first start against Hibs at the weekend. And he'll be hoping to emulate his old Benfica teammate Jota and make himself a Celtic hero too. Jota joined on an initial loan from the Portuguese giants two years ago and did enough to earn a permanent move before the Hoops cashed in on interest from Saudi Arabia.
Bernardo still keeps in touch with him and says he wants to carve out a legacy just like his. He said: "We are friends, I still speak to him a lot. Now I have to make my own history here and hopefully it will be good like his. "He told me the city was good, I think that too. He told me Celtic was a really good club, a big club, like we were used to in Benfica. He told me it's not too different and the biggest difference is the weather. I'm really enjoying Glasgow, like Jota said that I would."
