In the first of a new series, the ECHO looks into some of the most chilling unsolved crimes in Merseyside, starting with the murder of Colin Hughes
Paula Greenwood will never forget the night of September 21, 2010 - a sound outside her house, then a scream, and seconds later she was cradling her fiancé's bleeding body as he took his final breaths.
Speaking to the ECHO just a few days after the 13th anniversary of Colin's death, Paula said: "Every September is a horrible month. I dread it when it comes around - so do my family. Colin, known to friends as "Yosser" after the iconic character from Boys from the Black Stuff, was a hardworking family man who "loved his children", Paula continued.
Paula told the ECHO: "I stayed inside and called the police. They told me to stay on the line and not to go outside. I told my daughter to take over the phone and I ran out to Colin.
