'As well as working my body I want my work my brain.' 🏋 Scott Hanley was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease six years ago but since taking up intensive exercise over the past 15 months his symptoms have decreased significantly Read his story:
Scott joined
classes three times a week from April 2021 after the lockdown rules changed and allowed gyms to open again."All the tremors, cramping, sleep deprivation, the nightmares… they are a thing of the past."His neurologist told BBC News NI that his "symptoms were much less prominent and had decreased significantly".Dr Jonny Acheson from Parkinson's UK's Excellence Network said: "Research has shown that 2.
"If you have recently been diagnosed with Parkinson's, it's really important that you re-engage with exercise because it is the one thing that really helps you get control of the disease."states that "for people with Parkinson's, exercise has reported benefits for controlling motor and non-motor symptoms alongside the use of pharmacological intervention"."You never know what you will be doing.
"When he let us know about six months later, a lot of things made sense in terms of his movements. He has put in the hard work and has really improved.""I'm not sick - I forget that I have Parkinson's disease. I mean, I do, but I don't," he added.

A Hybrid U-Lossian Deep Learning Network for Screening and Evaluating Parkinson’s DiseaseSpeech impairment analysis and processing technologies have evolved substantially in recent years, and the use of voice as a biomarker has gained popularity. We have developed an approach for clinical speech signal processing to demonstrate the promise of deep learning-driven voice analysis as a screening tool for Parkinson’s Disease (PD), the world’s second most prevalent neurodegenerative disease. Detecting Parkinson’s disease symptoms typically involves an evaluation by a movement disorder expert, which can be difficult to get and yield varied findings. A vocal digital biomarker might supplement the time-consuming traditional manual examination by recognizing and evaluating symptoms that characterize voice quality and level of deterioration. We present a deep learning based, custom U-lossian model for PD assessment and recognition. The study’s goal was to discover anomalies in the PD-affected voice and develop an automated screening method that can discriminate between the voices of PD patients and healthy volunteers while also providing a voice quality score. The classification accuracy was evaluated on two speech corpora (Italian PVS and own Lithuanian PD voice dataset) and we have found the result to be medically appropriate, with values of 0.8964 and 0.7949, confirming the proposed model’s high generalizability.
