Parking fines in East Renfrewshire are set to rise by up to £40 from October.
A proposal to lift the penalty charge notice for contraventions of parking restrictions from £60 to £100 will go before councillors for approval next week.A report to East Renfrewshire Council’s cabinet states the move would “deter more motorists and re-offenders, improving road safety and the local environment”.
The report to councillors states that it is “necessary” for all four councils to “have the same PCN charges, to ensure that payments and appeals can be processed efficiently”. Over 3,600 fines were issued in East Renfrewshire in 2019/20, with a drop to just 77 in 2020/21 as a result of covid restrictions.Council officials stated: “Implementing the higher level of PCNs could assist with reducing the financial losses, in turn reducing the burden on ERC’s budgets and improving ERC’s ability to deliver, sustain or improve local transport provision.”
