Officially, Andrew Bagshaw was killed by shelling, alongside Chris Parry, while helping evacuate civilians. But his parents believe his death may have been a war crime

His parents, Dame Susan Bagshaw and Dr Philip Bagshaw, were told in late January that the pair were killed after their vehicle was hit by an artillery strike.

However, they started to question it after hearing that the report of a post-mortem examination of Mr Parry had recorded his cause of death“I was the first to hear the nature of Chris’s injuries and I immediately said, ‘This sounds like an execution-style death – and we did start then asking all sorts of questions,” Dr Bagshaw said.

“We still don’t know for certain [how the two aid workers died] but the post-mortem evidence shows they were dragged out of the car, because there are injuries to show that – well there was for Andrew anyway – and that they were shot.

Pictures of both the aid workers’ passports were shared on the Wagner Group’s Telegram channel on 11 January. A message underneath the pictures read: “On January 8, the Ask Wagner hotline received a request to find two British citizens who disappeared on January 6 in Soledar – Andrew Bagshaw and Christopher Parry.
