Overwatch 2's Illari is unique but divisive among players Overwatch2 Blizzard Illari

With the latest season of Overwatch 2 releasing players have finally gotten the opportunity to test out the game’s latest edition to the hero roster, Illari. The support character’s backstory has garnered much praise but players are torn on whether Illari can be classed as overpowered or not in-game.

Taking to the Overwatch Reddit, many players have noted their appreciation for the latest addition to the game’s hero roster not having any ties to already established characters. Illari’s backstory focuses on her journey to become an Inti Warrior. However, when undergoing the augmentation process she releases a “devastating amount of solar energy from her body, causing a blast that destroyed” every other Inti Warrior.

However, despite the praise Illari is receiving from lore fans, others have more of an issue with her in-game powers and abilities. Onesays, “I love having 99% of the damage I did revert in a nanosecond. Her [Illari’s] healing turret feels very strong too, considering it doesn’t have a time limit. Personally, I also think it’s weird they gave her a dps-like ult.”

Illari’s power level on release was always going to be a divisive decision. After many players complained about the poor state of another support hero, Lifeweaver, on launch, Blizzard noted their intent to release Illari in a more powerful state and make adjustments from there. In a, Overwatch 2 game director, Aaron Keller said, “It’s not our intent to release a hero that’s way overpowered, but we’d prefer that people play her because she brings value, not just because she’s new.
