Volunteers caught and caged the birds - from macaws to cockatoos and rare specimens of king parrots - before ferrying them to safety.

Around 275 exotic birds including some of the world's rarest parrots have been rescued from a Florida wildlife sanctuary after their owners refused to evacuate without them in the aftermath of Hurricane Ian.

All the animals will remain there until a collapsed bridge is repaired and life returns to normal on the island.
