Fireworks and open swimming together at last in Carnforth Bonfire Night extravaganza
No, you haven't misread the headline. A one-of-a-kind charity event is set for a diving centre in a quarry, which combines the sport of open water swimming - with a huge fireworks display.
To cap the night off once everyone has emerged back on dry land, entrants, who pay an entry fee in advance and are asked to fundraise for more research into Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection , will be treated to a fireworks display with a complementary hot drink to warm them up. Supports can look on as the the swimmers resemble multicoloured glow-worms, resulting in a magnificent sight. The location is also a Lancashire beauty spot by day, when it is used as for underwater diving and training, transforming a former limestone quarry.
