An oil terminal that supplies petrol stations across southern England is being blockaded byFour protesters had locked themselves to oil barrels earlier on Tuesday, when they were pictured lying across the entrance to the facility near Southampton.
Other demonstrators in Hamble have dressed up as cleaning ladies to remove layers of green paint on the drums which have slogans on them saying: ‘Broken promises / Burning Planet’ and ‘Govt MER Strategy / Maximises emissions’.James Hill, the environmental group’s south east spokesman, said: ‘The Government continues to announce paper targets to reduce emissions but it is still business as usual for fossil fuel companies.
He continued: ‘The UK Government’s policy is for Maximum Economic Recovery of oil and gas; this is incompatible with the urgent need for rapid transition away from fossil fuels to limit global heating to 1.5 degrees.
