A nutritionist specialising in helping obese people lose weight has shared one rule that will make a huge difference.
Weight has a way of creeping up stealthily until one day we notice our clothes are fitting tighter than before.
"The thing we need to understand is that food will never solve our problems, and can actually worsen them. Too much food means that we will gain weight, we can suffer from low self-esteem and different health problems and we feel less able to control our plates and even our lives. Food has never been as easy, affordable and reachable as it is now which means we need to be super aware of what we are choosing.
"Then they might reach for chocolate cookies and ice cream. Soon it’s chips and crisps and chocolate. They then feel terrible, like everything is out of control. This kitchen disco can go around and around. I usually tell people to pick an item and stick to it. According to the NHS, around one in four adults are living with obesity, which is defined as having a body mass index over 30.
