If strikes go ahead, the Royal College of Nursing says they would affect non-urgent but not emergency care.
The RCN describes the ballot as "a once-in-a-generation chance" to improve pay and overcome staff shortagesThe Royal College of Nursing is balloting all of its UK members for strike action for the first time in its 106-year history.
"My love for it [the job] was to make a difference in people's lives and that's why I'm here. But then sometimes when I look at it, it's like, is it really worth it?" she says. She added: "They need to give them a decent wage so they can look after their families, pay their bills." The union is inviting members of the public to co-sign a letter to Prime Minister Liz Truss, backing its stance.The Department of Health and Social Care in England said it valued "the hard work of NHS nurses"These ballot papers have been sent out in Scotland, with the rest of the UK following suit in the coming weeks.
