Work has already taken place to eradicate the issue

A Nottinghamshire hospital that was on a list of more than 30 "ticking time bomb" buildings says it has already eradicated the dangerous concrete still in place at many facilities. Reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete was used extensively on public buildings as a cheap and lightweight roofing solution.

But new evidence on the short lifespan of the material means buildings constructed with it are showing safety defects, with more than 100 schools having to close off affected areas this week. Data obtained by The Mirror revealed that 34 hospitals were at least partially built with RAAC. One of these was Bassetlaw Hospital, where The Mirror's data said some theatres were affected. But the Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals Trust, which runs Bassetlaw Hospital, has confirmed that RAAC was removed from the site earlier this year.

The work in Bassetlaw came after the trust received funding of £15.944 million to replace the affected roofs by the middle of this year. It means DBTH is the first acute NHS provider in the country to have removed RAAC from its sites. Bassetlaw's Conservative MP, Brendan Clarke-Smith, added: "Our excellent trust in Bassetlaw is once again ahead of other parts of the country and RAAC was removed thanks to nearly £16million in funding." No other Nottinghamshire hospitals are believed to be affected.
