He has been told it could rise again
The owner of a boxing gym in St Ann’s has spoken about the uncertainty the building faces due to high rents. The gym used by many children and adults in the area is seen as a safe hub for many and without it, many children would have nowhere but home to go.
Jawaid had been told by the Renewal Trust, the organisation that owns the building, that after March 2023, rents could be increased again. “There are people who have been here who know that they could have gone down the wrong route but have changed. They’ll say ‘Uncle Jaw, how are you doing, it’s me’ and that’s what this is all about.”
