Forest made an effort to sign the defender after launching a £25million bid. Chalobah was also subject of interest from Tottenham and Bayern Munich.
The 24-year-old had favoured a move to Bayern on a season-long loan but Forest tried to hijack a potential move. As for Chelsea, a deal would be difficult to materialise due to the rivalry between clubs. However, the Blues preferred a permanent exit for a "significant fee" rather than a loan deal. Although there was an agreement between clubs, Chalobah "appreciated the effort" but rejected a move after a move to Bayern collapsed. The Reds instead turned to Norwich defender Andrew Omobamidele. Forest welcomed 13 signings with seven of those being on deadline day. Those signings are: Ola Aina, Anthony Elanga, Matt Turner, Gonzalo Montiel, Andrey Santos, Murillo, Nuno Tavares, Nicolas Dominguez, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Odysseas Vlachodimos, Divock Origi, Ibrahim Sangare and Omobamidele.
