An inquest has found that the death of a Nottingham dad-of-two, who collapsed in the street, was likely caused by drugs. The 45-year-old man fell and hit his head while walking to see his brother. He was in a coma for two weeks before passing away. The assistant coroner took into account his history of drug addiction and the fact that he was found with drugs on him.

The death of a Nottingham dad-of-two, who collapsed in the street, was likely to have been caused by drugs, an inquest has found. Nick Walton was walking along Radford Road to see his brother on November 26 when he suddenly fell and hit his head at around 4.30pm.

Due to a lack of toxicology samples from the time of his hospital admission, assistant coroner Hannah Mettam said she had no "definite proof" drugs caused the injury, but said she had taken into account his history of drug addiction and the fact that he was found with drugs on him. Mr Walton's brother Adam, sister Catherine and mum Jane were all in attendance at the inquest at Nottingham Council House and raised concerns about his care.

Despite improving for a few years, his addiction worsened in the time leading up to his death, with Nick Coombes from the Clean Slate Project reporting that Mr Walton took large amounts of crack and heroin. Ms Mettam recognised his "extraordinarily impressive" attempts to break the cycle.
