'It’s not a vanity project'🛰️ The UK is the second largest producer of satellites after the US but it never had the capability to launch them from home turf until now...
The UK’s space voyage is far from being a vanity project, says Matt Archer, director of commercial spaceflight at the UK Space Agency .
The plane will return to the spaceport, while the rocket takes small satellites with civil and defence applications into orbit. They will be the first satellites launched into space from Western Europe. Spaceports have been lined up in four other areas but they will need to assess whether there is market demand to become operational.
Kevin Craven, chief executive of ADS, which represent 1,100 businesses in the aerospace, defence, security and space sectors, says Spaceport Cornwall was an “important milestone” in “establishing the UK as the leading provider of commercial satellite launch in Europe by 2030”. We shouldn’t expect launches anything remotely close to those that draw the attention of the world at the likes of Cape Canaveral in Florida, from whereThat would be currently impossible due to the need to have a large enough take-off space, including a safety clear zone. And heavy launches would not provide value for money for the taxpayer.
