It was reported to Anglia Water by a resident as the 'stench in the area was horrendous'
A Northamptonshire sewage blockage was due to "misuse by food establishments" according to Anglian Water. The local Extinction Rebellion group said that "on or around" July 7 to July 8, there was a discharge into the River Nene at Embankment, Wellingborough.
A spokesperson said: "A blockage was discovered on the foul sewer. It was caused by the misuse of the sewer from local food-serving establishments. "This was a private illegal connection that we have rectified to prevent future issues. We have also advised the owners to remove the connection permanently.”
"They had self-reported a blockage in the foul sewer on the River Nene at Wellingborough. Anglian Water responded to the incident and managed the response as they maintain the sewerage system in that location.”
