A number of Northamptonshire MPs backed Boris Johnson before his dramatic withdrawal from the race for No 10 Downing Street. Rishi Sunak will be the next Prime Minister after his only opponent in the Conservative Party leadership contest pulled out yesterday .
Former PM Boris Johnson sensationally pulled out of the running on Sunday night. His U-turn came despite saying he would have a "very good chance" of succeeding in the race for Number 10.However, many Northamptonshire MP's publicly backed his return before he ruled himself out in the "national interest" and made way for the other candidates.
Chris Heaton-Harris, the MP for Daventry, also tweeted on Friday: "We need a leader with a proven track record of delivery, the resilience to lead our country, a mandate from the British people and the ability to defeat Keir Starmer. That’s why I’m backing @BorisJohnson to finish the job he started in 2019."
