A set of traffic lights in Northampton that break down as often as once a week are finally set to be replaced after a 7-year-campaign by a "tenacious" local councillor. The current system is over 30-years-old and can be disabled by a single spider.

"The antiquated control board can be shut down by something as small as a spider getting in there," Cllr Davenport said. "They typically come within one or two days. If it's ever longer than that then they say they'll set up temporary lights." It also leads to drivers having to take dangerous decisions. "It's left to a 'he who is quickest or boldest' approach," said Davenport.
