The blaze remains ongoing on Wednesday morning
Firefighters have been tackling a Northampton blaze at a four-storey building overnight. Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue was called at 11pm on Tuesday night to Bridge Street in Northampton town centre .
The building is believed to be vacant and caught alight last night. According to Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue, nine pumps, two aerial appliances a water bowser and the Joint Command Unit attended the peak of the blaze. In an update on Wednesday morning , the incident remains ongoing with two pumps and two aerial appliances still on scene. The road remains closed and is expected to be closed for most of the day.
Crews have said they will need to dampen down any remaining hotspots. People are urged to avoid the area where possible. A spokesperson for Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue said: "Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service apologises for the inconvenience caused to businesses and people using the town centre whilst their vital safety work continues. The cause of the fire is still unknown."
