The tax hike on second homes will come into force from April 2024.
Second home owners must pay double the amount of council tax on properties in North Yorkshire, after councillors approved the proposed rise.
But he said that in "exceptional circumstances" residents will be able to claim a council tax reduction. There are 8,199 second homes in North Yorkshire according to the National Housing Federation, the highest number in the the Yorkshire and Humber region.
