The population of NI has now passed 1.9 million
The population growth within Northern Ireland has been slowest in the North West region over the past decade, new statistics suggest.
The lowest total population growth between 2012 and 2022 was in the Causeway Coast and Glens council area with just a 0.1% increase, followed by the Derry City and Strabane council with just 1.5%. Across Northern Ireland, the population has increased by 4.7% over the 10 year period, with Lisburn and Castlereagh growing most quickly at 9.8%.The figures are contained in a mid-year population estimate published by the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency, and show that the total population has now crossed the 1.9 million mark.The most populous is Belfast with 348,000, followed by the Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon council with 220,300 people.
