Early-years workers across North Lanarkshire will stage four days of strikes over controversial proposals to regrade their posts and reduce their wages by thousands of pounds per year.

Representatives of the local government and education union confirmed that they have officially served notice to North Lanarkshire Council of next month’s intended strike dates. Nursery workers, along with parents and staff, staged a demonstration outside the council’s headquarters in March to highlight opposition to the regrading and the “devastating” impact of the pay cut – with some telling how they feared having to sell their homes as a result.
