One Red Wall MP doubted Rishi Sunak's northern credentials claiming his Yorkshire seat was 'posher than parts of London'
The departure of Mr Wallace, who is MP for Wyre and Preston North in Lancaster, leaves Mr Sunak, MP for Richmond in Yorkshire, as the only Cabinet member representing a northern seat.it was a “great shame” that the Prime Minister had not ensured more northern representation in his top team.The MP also pointed out that Mr Sunak had previously failed to honour his pledge during his leadership campaign to appoint a dedicated minister for the north of England.
The Prime Minister also pointed out to the NRG that he himself was a northern MP. One Red Wall MP, however, was doubtful of Mr Sunak’s northern credentials.that his seat of Richmond in Yorkshire is “posher than parts of London” and has “very little in common” with their own constituency. “The biggest thing for my voters is immigration so if he delivers on that promise I’ll be happy,” they added.
