Emma Raducanu just became the youngest woman to face a grand slam final since Maria Sharapova in 2004.has become the first British female to make it to the final of the US Open in 44 years. At just 18 years old, that’s no mean feat. It also puts her in the history books as the youngest BritishThe huge achievement comes after Raducanu – ranked 150th in the world at the beginning of the tournament – beat Greek player and world number 17 Maria Sakkari in a dominating performance on 10 September.
She really didn’t expect to get this far – proved by the fact that she’d booked a flight home for after the qualifiers, expecting to get knocked out before the final stages. “I didn’t expect to be here at all,” she told the BBC, saying that rescheduling her flight is “a nice problem to have.”this summer, having entered as a wildcard ranked 338th in the world and finishing in the last 16, only withdrawing due to breathing difficulties.
