This is something Nintendo of America president Doug Bowser also corroborated recently, adding that the goal with the account system is to allow for a smoother transition when the company launches its next console.
It also makes sense considering the current Switch remains popular; recent sales figures from Japan are very healthy for a console that’s over six years old. Plus, not everyone will be able or willing to jump ship to a new console straight away.
