The former First Minister's 24-hour protection had been kept in place since she had resigned in March.
But the Scottish Sun reported that the security has now been withdrawn as Police Scotland and the Scottish Government could not justify the cost.
A source close to Sturgeon said that "to suggest she wants ongoing security could not be further from reality". He was released without charge. Sturgeon was later arrested and released without charge as part of the same probe.
