Kevin McGeary's song has amassed hundreds of thousands of views on Chinese video-sharing apps
When Co Tyrone man Kevin McGeary bought his first guitar 26 years ago, never did he expect he would be a viral singing sensation halfway across the world.
Speaking to Belfast Live, Kevin shared his story of how he came to record music in Chinese and how karaoke lead to a fruitful career."Later, when I got old enough to be in bands, I realised that working with musicians was a fast track to an early grave, so I turned to the classical guitar, a solo instrument. Learning to read music would serve me well in later years."
"Over the years, I realised that a Caucasian singing in Mandarin would never be taken seriously, so in 2012 I started writing deliberately silly songs." "Right at the start of the pandemic, a group of Hollywood celebrities had got together to record a rendition of John Lennon's 'Imagine', and it seemed kind of tactless to sing “imagine there’s no heaven…” when the body bags were piling up, so I thought I would write a musical riposte.
