It is believed that Howe wanted an upgrade during the summer on Jamal Lascelles, the long-serving 29-year-old who came off the bench for the last 16 minutes of the 3-1 defeat to Brighton last weekend.Schar and Burn paired in central defence for that match as star man Botman was out with an ankle injury sustained in the defeat to Liverpool the previous weekend.
Newcastle tried to sign Andersen as they worked on bringing in a proven centre-back experienced in the Premier League. The Dane has made a big impact at Palace since signing in the summer of 2021 from Lyon after a season on loan at Fulham. He has played every minute of the London club’s four Premier League matches this season, and 76 times in all during his two years at Selhurst Park.
