As demonstrated by the most recent data published in April 2023, as part of the Government’s Police Uplift Programme, 338 additional officers have been recruited in Hertfordshire. Nationally, there are more police officers in England and Wales than ever before, with almost 150,000 in post – more than 3,500 higher than the previous peak in 2010.
Working with the Police & Crime Commissioner, I am pleased to have helped secure the new police station which is scheduled to open in George Street later this year. This will provide more visible policing on the high street. It is encouraging that there has been a significant decrease in domestic burglaries of late, and I would like to thank the local police for their work. Vehicle theft, and theft from vehicles has been increasing however, and measures are in place to address this. Residents have raised concerns about knife crime and antisocial behaviour, and I am working with the Police to look at initiatives to assist with reducing the instances.
