The business suffered three arson attacks in the space of a year
Owners of a Nottinghamshire garage hit by three arson attacks in the space of a year plan to have eight houses built on their site after "struggling" to keep the business going. Lowdham Cars in Gunthorpe would be downsized if plans were approved after the spate of crimes led owners to suffer an estimated financial hit of around £3 million.
Ahead of the sentencing hearing, Lowdham Cars owner Melanie Hibbitt has now lodged plans with Newark and Sherwood District Council for housing to be based on the company's premises. Ms Hibbitt said: "We have struggled and struggled to keep the business going. The second arson charge relates to an incident last August, where the showroom was set on fire and several cars were destroyed. Staff had secured Portakabins which they were going to move into in place of the showroom, but the final arson attack came last Christmas Day when these units were also set on fire.
