New DWP rule changes due to start this Autumn for parents of children aged up to 12
Earlier this week, the Department for Work and Pensions implemented new changes to Universal Credit on the frequency of appointments with work coaches for parents of children aged one and two-years-old. Further changes are planned in the Autumn for those with children up to the age of 12.
However, this change isn’t limited to parents as it applies to Universal Credit claimants who have the main caring responsibilities for children, which could be a parent, grandparent, kinship carer, adoptive parent, or other guardian dependent on their individual family circumstances. DWP refers to these people as lead carers to reflect the full range of childcare arrangements.
DWP estimates the Autumn change will support over 700,000 people who have the main responsibility of looking after their children. Top Money Stories Today Commenting on the changes, Minister for Employment, Guy Opperman MP, said: “Thousands of parents of young children will start to meet their dedicated work coaches on a more regular basis. This extra support will help those on low incomes to think about and prepare for work while their child is young.
