Scottish Child Payment is paid every four weeks to families on a low income.
People in Scotland claiming certain benefits are being urged to claim a unique payment worth £25 each week for children under the age of 16. New figures released by the Scottish Government show that new claims for the Scottish Child Payment were taking on average just 13 working days to process by the end of June.
Families who qualify for the Scottish Child Payment, who are also eligible for the Best Start Grant Early Learning and School Age payments, will receive the additional benefits automatically without the need to apply for them separately. Cabinet Secretary for Social Justice Shirley-Anne Somerville said: “Scottish Child Payment is one of our key measures in tackling child poverty. It is an important safety net and one of many actions we are taking in government to lift people out of poverty.
