Hundreds of thousands of women lost the opportunity to plan for their retirements
The Women Against State Pension Inequality campaign has said almost four million women saw their retirement plans "plunged into chaos" at the last minute, after the Department for Work and Pensions increased the State Pension age from 60 to 65, and later 66.
In July 2021, the first stage of an investigation by the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman ruled that the DWP failed to communicate the age changes to those women with enough urgency, finding it guilty of "maladministration". “The Ombudsman’s investigation has been going on for five long years, and it is two years since it confirmed the DWP was guilty of maladministration. To keep women waiting a single further day for a proper offer of compensation just shows an appalling disregard for all of us.”
