Three series into its glossy Sky reboot, Buzzcocks is safe, by the book and overly slick

presenter Alex Brooker and the band Nova Twins. The duo, Amy Love and Georgia South, make heavy, raucous rock music about racism and sexism and count Rage Against the Machine’s Tom Morello among their fans. Surely, they would inject some anarchy into things?

No luck. They gamely giggled along to Davies’s jokes about their telepathy and the only flicker of lawlessness came when they said they would be able to beat boyband Blue in a fight. It’s not their fault, of course; in the age of social media complaining, anyone caught looking ungrateful or unhappy to be in their position would face a public roasting not unlike the one they’d have received from Mark Lamarr back in the day. Not something a record label would be happy about, I’d imagine.

Segments that have stood the test of time include the Intros Round and Identity Parade, a particular highlight as it allowed the panelists to unleash their nasty side. “Number five looks like a youth worker that no-one respects,” quipped Cooper. But most of the 45-minute episode was spent on pre-prepared anecdotes about hot tubs and the time Jones and his bandmate slept with a mother and daughter. Separately, it should be made clear.
