The one-year-old was rushed to hospital

As a little boy fought for his life in hospital, a quiet Burnley community spent this morning trying to come to terms with the day before.

Air ambulance flew him to Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital with serious injuries. Today , his condition was described as 'serious but stable'.In the aftermath, Detectives conducted door-to-door enquiries in a bid to find anyone who saw or heard what happened. And officers are hoping to speak to the several passers-by who stopped to help.

James, who has lived in Heap Street for most of his life, was out walking his dog at the time the incident happened. "I've never known anything like it," he said. "When I got back from walking the dog the police were knocking on doors asking everyone if they saw or heard anything."
