People were helped to get out of their flats
Neighbours have recalled seeing flames "billow" from a derelict pub in Nottingham as investigations begin. at The Pelham Hotel in Gawthorne Street, New Basford, at around 7.30pm on Friday, August 11.
"Flames were billowing out of the roof in the middle. I started banging on doors and helping people leave the flats. Fire engines then arrived and police cordoned the area off. We got out safely, as well as everyone in the flats." "I was getting my washing in and it got worse, I started to think it was something worse. When I came out there were lots of people outside and the fire service were here. I didn't see the fire, only the smoke. It seemed to take a while for the fire service to control it, the fire was at the top of the building."
