Naomi Osaka is the proud mom of a baby girl ❤️
“I know that I have so much to look forward to in the future, one thing I’m looking forward to is for my kid to watch one of my matches and tell someone, ‘that’s my mom,’ haha,” Osaka wrote on Twitter in January. “2023 will be a year that’s full of lessons for me and I hope I’ll see you guys in the start of the next one cause I’ll be at Aus 2024. Love you all infinitely.”
Osaka, who won the Australian Open in 2019 and 2021, has not played in a tournament since September when she forfeited at the Toray Pan Pacific Open, citing abdominal pain. She took two breaks in 2021, with the first coming at the French Open after she opened up about her anxiety over post-match news conferences. She detailed in a statement at the time how she had struggled with depression since the 2018 US Open and got “huge waves of anxiety” before speaking to the media.
Osaka sat out of Wimbledon that summer but represented Japan at the Tokyo Olympics, where she lit the Olympic cauldron and later lost in the third round. She turned to Grand Slam action at the US Open, where she was the defending champion, and was upset in the third round by teenager Leylah Fernandez. Osaka said after the loss that she didn’t know when she would be playing tennis again.
