I worked in Parliament for years – I know how much of an MP's office can run on autopilot if it has to
byline, although she found room to mention her newspaper column, TV show, and novels. The email provided was not for her constituency office, but for her agent.
Compared with a generation ago, when MPs were mostly national legislators who sat long into the night conducting detailed, line-by-line scrutiny of legislation, today a huge amount of their time is taken up with correspondence and what is called “casework” – helping constituents who write in with various problems.
Likewise, it is common for replying to correspondence not to need much, if any, personal input either.
