The singer was most known for his hits including Day-O and Jamaica Farewell., revealing he died at his home in New York, on Tuesday.The Harlem-born entertainer first came to fame as a pop singer in the 1940s – while trying to launch an acting career – and signed his first recording contract in 1949.
