A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a man at a flat in Southport.
Emergency services were called to Bath Street in the town at around 8pm last night . Police said a 57-year-old man was found inside and pronounced dead at the scene.
Formal identification of the suspected murder victim is yet to take place and a post mortem examination will take place to establish the cause of death. A 51-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody for questioning.Pictures showed several police cars at the scene this morning . Forensic officers in white boiler suits were also seen combing the property and surrounding area for evidence.
Detective Inspector Matthew Kerr told the ECHO: "It is with great sadness that we confirm that a man was found dead at a property on Bath Street. "We are in the very early stages of the investigation as we seek to establish what has taken place and how he died. We urge anyone who may have seen or know something that might help with the investigation to please contact us.
