Just so awful
Just over a decade ago foodbanks didn't exist. But now them and community warm hubs have become lifelines for families up and down the country, with added pressure during the winter months.
She told LancsLive: "If I didn't have this, then some days we wouldn't eat. That's how simple it is." "We had just two tins of beans and bread because we didn't know about these [the Big Local]. We had enough toast and bins to give the four kids and me and the husband had a piece of toast. Veronica said: "They asked me about a million and one questions and I thought, I don't need all that. I've got five lads, three of them are disabled, then I've got a disabled sister and two disabled brothers. So, I don't need to have all this just to help me with a bit of food. It's not like I'm coming every single day.
She said: "I don't put anymore electric on, I don't put anymore gas on or anything else. For an hour, I'll put the heating on, heat the house up. Then I'll say, keep the doors closed - every door. Put your jacket on, then you'll keep warm. Then it goes on, like an hour and a half at night-time, so that they're not cold when they go out of bed to go to the toilet."
